residential garden installation 3
The homeowners were inspired by their recent visit to Japan and wanted to landscape their backyard. Two rare challenges presented themselves that drew our interest: a great cut-out from the natural sandstone outcrop that regularly seeped water, and because the lawn had been placed on solid rock with drainage issues.
We rarely recommend a karesansui (dry landscape-style garden) because, while it may seem to be low maintenance, it can be a high maintenance garden if there are trees nearby dropping debris that require constant cleaning of the gravel.
We chose this style of garden because of the site conditions that would not allow for many other solutions and the clients were thrilled with the idea.
To our great surprise, the water in the cliff became a frozen waterfall in winter.
